How to delete your Google Workspace account?

Have you decided that Google Workspace no longer works for you and your business? It might be time to delete your Google Workspace account!

Deleting a Google Workspace account involves two simple steps:

Logging into your Google Admin Console from your admin account.

Selecting ‘Delete account’ within the ‘Account Settings’ header on the left-hand sidebar.

But before you can delete your Google Workspace account for good, you must ensure you cancel all subscriptions within your Google Workspace account.

If you don’t, it simply won’t be possible to delete your account!

How to cancel your Google Workspace subscription?

  • Within your Google Admin Console dashboard , select ‘Account’ then ‘Account Settings’ on the left-hand sidebar.
  • Click ‘Account Management’.
  • Under ‘Cancel your organization’s subscription’, click ‘Go to Subscriptions’.
  • Within ‘Subscriptions’, select each active subscription.
  • Select the three dots (more) below ‘Change payment plan’.
  • Click ‘Cancel subscription’ and enter why you’re cancelling the subscription.
  • Select ‘Continue’.

Once you’ve done this for each of your active subscriptions, you’re ready to delete your Google Workspace account.

Note: If you cancel the subscription, your Google Workspace account may still continue to function until the end of your billing period.

How to delete your Google Workspace account? Step-by-step guide

Once you’ve successfully cancelled your active Google Workspace subscriptions, you’re ready to delete your account.

To successfully delete your Google Workspace account:

Sign in to the Google Admin Console using your administrator account.

Within the Google Admin Console, on the left-hand sidebar, click ‘Account’ then ‘Account Settings’ from the drop-down menu.

Click ‘Account Management’.

Scroll down and select ‘Delete Account’ below ‘Delete your account’.

And that’s how you can effortlessly delete your Google Workspace account!

Note: If you’re not using an administrator account, you won’t be able to access the Admin Console, and therefore, can’t delete your Google Workspace account.

It's important to understand that this process permanently deletes your organization's data.

Here are some essential things to consider before shutting your Google Workspace account down for good.

Important Considerations:

Time frame: The account deletion process may take up to 30 days; therefore, you may have access to your account briefly after you cancel your account.

Account recovery: If you do change your mind, there is a short window that lets you recover your account. But once that’s gone, your data could be lost for good!

Impact on your team and business operations: Deleting your Google Workspace account can certainly shake up your team's operations and productivity! Ensure you let them know and make the transition as seamless as possible.

Deleting vs. canceling subscription: Sometimes, canceling your subscription is a more budget-friendly option and worth considering if your goal is to scale back.

What to do before you delete your Google Workspace account?

Before you permanently delete your Google Workspace account, you should:

  1. Backup data: Deleting a Google Workspace account will also remove all associated data. So, make sure you back up your crucial data, such as emails, documents, calendar events, and more, before deleting.
  2. Cancel Google services: Ensure you cancel your subscriptions (like Google Drive storage upgrades and third-party services or apps) linked to your account.
  3. Ensure you tell your team: Give them plenty of notice so they can adjust their workflows and expectations, and share details about the next steps.

What does deleting your Google Workspace account mean?

By deleting your Google Workspace account, you’ll permanently lose all data and content associated with that specific account.

This includes everything from emails to files, calendar events, and photos.

Additionally, you won’t be able to access any Google Apps within that account, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or Google Play (and the content within these apps).

Also, any subscriptions or content purchased through that account on YouTube or Google Play (apps, movies, games, music, etc) will no longer be available to you.

Deleting Google Workspace account alternative

Does permanently deleting your Google Workspace account seem too drastic? There may be a better solution!

If you’re considering deleting your Google Workspace account due to costs, have you considered downgrading to a cheaper paid plan or a free Google Workspace account?

With a free Google Workspace, you can still use various Google services and apps, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.

However, you won’t be able to use certain features, such as custom email addresses or advanced security options, and you’ll have less storage space.

While the free Google Workspace plan has some limitations compared to paid Google Workspace options, it still may be a better solution for some.
